Winter is absolutely fabulous for layering and playing with texture, but it can be all too easy to neglect your use of accessories during the cold months. For me, I used to not only avoid accessories, but I chose to freeze my ears off while walking the dog and risk losing my fingers to frostbite as I drive to work in my cold car in the morning. If you know me, you know I'm totally obsessed with UK style blogs and lookbook.nu
. I thoroughly believe this borderline creepy obsession has saved me from losing vital body parts - like my ears and fingers. Read about my four must-have winter accessories below, and let me know what yours
are in a comment at the end!

1. Faux Fur Snood
You'll notice there are two faux fur items in this post, and that's because I'm addicted
. I never in a million years considered myself to be a faux fur type of girl but I now realize I was very wrong. I grabbed this faux fur cheetah print snood from Zara
last month and love how I can wear it with a black silk blouse or my Aritzia Aspen Parka
. It's super versatile, easy to wash, and adds a little extra bit of "chic" to my winter wear. It's more of a casual piece than the faux fur stole, hence why I needed both... right? Regardless, I had been looking for a faux fur snood for a while but couldn't find anything at a price point I thought was reasonable (it's printed acrylic, come on!) so I was very surprised to find what I was looking for at only $35 in Zara. Was it a Christmas miracle? Likely not, but I'll take it anyway.
2. Etre Touchy Wool Gloves
I discovered London-based Etre
about a month ago when I was contacted about reviewing a pair of their Touchy Wool Gloves
. After learning about the brand and their awesome gloves that feature only two fingerless fingers (index and thumb), I started looking more into practical yet fashionable options for winter. I've been raving about the Etre Touch Gloves since I received them, not only because they let me use my iPhone without having to take them off, but also because they're extremely
soft and made from 100% Melton Wool. There's something very British-Utilitarian about them and I'm really into it.
3. Oversized Slouchy Beanies
If you read my post about Nina Dobrev
and her extensive, and beautiful, collection of beanies then you probably know about two other recent additions to my winter accessories collection. I placed an order from a Polish Etsy shop
for two hand knit beanies and received them about two weeks ago. It was nearly impossible to find a slouchy, over sized beanie anywhere locally and I just didn't have the patience to knit one myself (I'm more of a scarf knitter), so took to the Internet to find my perfect beanie à la Nina Dobrev. I ordere an oversized cable knit beanie
and an oversized "sacking" hat
. I love that they're looser and slouchy and don't leave an intend on my forehead or in my hair like a lot of winter hats do. Plus, they're thickly knit and oh-so warm.
4. Faux Fur Stole
Back in October I had went to Montreal with my friend Miranda
and she bought this adorable faux fur stole from H&M
. After sweating like a maniac in the over packed fitting rooms and waiting in line to pay for the clothes I wanted, I was hardly into the idea of leaving the line to hunt for the same faux fur stole - even though I loved it. So, my Ebay hunt began almost immediately upon returning home. Finally I found a seller in Texas offering something really similar, so I watched the auction like a hawk until I won. :D I got to wear it for the first time on Tuesday night at a local bloggers get together and love how it dresses up even the most casual of outfits (I was wearing biker boots, American Apparel leggings, a white polyester tunic and denim vest). If you have an H&M nearby, I recommend you go pick this baby up!
