Winter Date Night Outfit ft. Marshalls & Cibo Wine Bar
November 27, 2013
I’m a busy girl. Between working full time in the world of digital strategy (it's totally fun but can be a little demanding!) and blogging up a storm in my evenings and weekends, it can be tough to schedule time for date night. When Marshalls released the #ProjectFab November challenge, it couldn’t have been more perfect timing – it was time to put together a date night outfit!
For this challenge (see other challenge posts here, here and here) I brought along my husband to go shopping. After all, the outfit was just as much for him as it was for me! It's always interesting to see what he likes vs. what I like, and to see his reactions to outfits. Since he's a graphic designer, he tends to have a good eye for colour, line and contrast.
I tried on five different dresses - a red leather dress, a Tahari gold and black dress, a cobalt blue sweater dress, a grey and white lace dress (husband's favourite), and a calf-length black fitted dress. I loved a couple of them, but in the end I only budgeted to leave with one.
The fourth dress won in the end, which is this beautiful light grey and ivory lace number by Monteau. And, if you can believe it, it only cost $25 - seriously. It ended up being the least expensive dress that I had tried on, with the most expensive having been $99 (which is still not bad considering how much you can spend on a dress at most retail shops).
To keep the smoky grey vibe going, I grabbed a structured tote by London Fog in steel grey. It has a slight blue-ish tinge to it, and adorable metallic threaded sides. It’s the perfect yet practical date night bag. It will also give me a great place to stash my scarf and gloves while out at dinner. It is winter in Canada, after all!
By this point, I was set on continuing the greyscale palette. Before heading out for a night of Italian food and drink at Cibo WineBar (an amazing modern Italian restaurant on King Street W where the food is rivaled only by the décor), I slipped on a pair of black Secret Legwear stockings and into my now staple Solective boots from Capezio Shoes.
He had a blast, I had a blast, and most importantly – I felt chic and feminine in my fall date outfit from Marshalls. Oh, and the elasticized waistband allowed for plenty of gnocchi and yummy dessert too! ;)
