We Bought Our First Time! Our Toronto Real Estate Story.
October 8, 2014
I'm so excited to share with you all that my husband and I have bought our first home in downtown Toronto. After what feels like forever, but apparently wasn't nearly as long as some people spend looking, we're happy to say that we've successfully made a deal and landed our first "owned" home after braving six months of the Toronto real estate market.
We've been married for over three years, together for over eight years and living together for more than five. But, we've always been renters because we knew we wouldn't live in Ottawa for long enough to buy somewhere. After a year living in gorgeous downtown Toronto, we've pulled the trigger and BAM. We're home owners, baby.
Over the next few months (and let's be honest, years) I'll probably be talking a bit more about paint, decor and home projects than normal. I'll be categorizing all those posts under my Life>Home category, so please do check them out if you're interested in following along on our journey. If not, don't worry. This blog isn't turning into a domestic blog and there will still be plenty of content surrounding beauty, fashion and lifestyle. :)
For those considering or currently looking to buy their first home in Toronto, and specifically in the downtown area, I want you to know that I 100% understand your frustration. Whether you have a $300K or $800K budget (heck, even more!) it's no easy feat. Between the questionable renovations, sickening bidding wars and roller-coaster highs-and-lows... I feel ya. I also want you to know that if you stick with it, even when you're so frustrated you can't imagine going to even one more open house or searching the listings one more time... something will eventually work out.
We got lucky compared to others and only lost out on one bidding war before landing our first home (a 1150sq ft condo-townhouse). And, to be honest, it was kind of a blessing we lost the bidding war. The place we ended up with is even larger, the layout makes more sense, we paid less *sigh of relief* and it just feels right.
Okay, so that's enough of the self-gratuitous ranting for now. Hehe. Thanks for reading! xo
Are you familiar with the crazy real estate market that is downtown Toronto? I'd love to hear your stories!
